Make your own three gorgeous beauty products
Mother’s Day is just around the corner and if you are the type that likes to make something personal, special and pampering then these three gorgeous skincare formulations are ideal. They are quick and easy to whip up so you can still make it in time for the weekend.
Make one or all three for a handmade and truly luxurious pamper pack.
1: Luscious body butter:
With only two ingredients this is one of the easiest body butters to make and it is wonderfully creamy and hydrating, leaving the skin feeling super soft and satisfied. Add a few drops of essential oils and you have a gorgeously and luxurious gift.
- Organic cocoa butter* 40 g - Almond oil 60ml - Essential oil (optional): 10 drops (yang yang, lavender geranium, orange, mandarin, lemon are all good choices)
* Use unrefined non-deodorised cocoa butter if possible to get all the nourishing benefits and full chocolate aroma of the cocoa butter. If you wish you can substitute cocoa butter with shea butter and get a softer more creamy body butter.
How to make it:
Melt Cocoa butter (or shea butter) in a double boiler - taking care not to let it get too hot - between 40 - 45 ℃ is fine. Remove from double boiler, add almond oil and essential oils (up to 10 drops - if using). Mix well taking care not to stir too vigorously to avoid air bobbles. Put in the freezer to cool for 10 - 15 mins, stirring every 5 mins. When mixture starts to thicken pour into suitable jar, seal and top it off with a hand written label.
2: Coconut lip butter
Kids love making lip balms and it's a wonderful little Mother's day project.
...and they make cute little gifts too.
This recipe has got a mere 4 ingredients and it is super soothing and moisturising with a good stay-on effect.....and it is vegan too.
Cocoa butter and Shea butter is fairly easy to come by and most good health food stores stock it.
You can make a zillion different variations by adding different essential oils, flavour oils, sparkle and/or mica powders for a bit of colour and zing! This recipe makes enough for one 15ml lip bal.
What you need:
- 6g Shea butter
- 3g Cocoa butter
- 3 g Coconut oil
- 4ml (2 tsp) Olive oil, (or another good cold pressed oil like almond, jojoba oil or argan oil).
- 2 or 3 drops essential oil (optional): Lavender, orange, mandarin, grapefruit, vanilla, peppermint are all good choices. How to make it:
Combine all ingredients and melt in a double boiler or in a small glass bowl over a pot of boiling water, stirring until melted. Remove from heat, add essential oils (if using).
Carefully pour mixture into a small container, and place in fridge to cool/solidify.
3: Orange & Lavender Sugar Scrub: This is a really lovely spring body scrub, fresh & invigorating, leaving the skin soft & silky smooth. Great for the feet to to soften hard skin and cracked heels. What you need:
1/4 Cup organic Olive oil (you can also use coconut oil or almond oil)
