CHIA SEED OIL

BOTANICAL NAME: Salvia hispanica

WHAT IS IT

The Chia plant is an annual herb related to mint and originating from South - and Central America.

The small black/grey chia seeds are pressed to yield a pale golden lightweight oil.

WHERE DO WE GET IT FROM

Our cold pressed Chia seed oil comes from Croatia and is certified organic by the Soil Association.

WHY IS IT SO GOOD

The cold pressed oil from the Chia seeds is a super nourishing & relatively light oil which means it is easily absorbed into the skin without clogging the pores. Chia seeds contain one of the highest known sources of alpha-linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) 50 - 60% and a very high source of linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid) 30%. Both of these are essential fatty acids (EFA’s). ‘Essential’ because the body needs them to function and it is essential that we get them through our diet as our bodies are unable to manufacture them.

Omega-3 is one of the the main nutrients that helps with slowing down the ageing process and inhibit wrinkle formation since it is an important building block in the formation of collagen which supports the structure of the skin and maintain a youthful looking one.

Omega-3 is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and can help reduce & relieve red & irritated skin.

And if that is not enough Chia seed oil is also packed full of vitamins (A, B, E, D), minerals (calcium, phosphorous, potassium, sulphur, iron, iodine, copper, zinc, sodium, magnesium, manganese, silicon) and powerful antioxidants that nourish & revitalise the skin as well as protect it against environmental pollutants.

Of course the wonderful properties of chia seed oil also works wonders on the hair. A few drops massaged into the hair will give it a natural glow and chia seed oil also carries zinc which helps in the production of the new hair cells.
